NEW DELHI: India set a new record by reporting over 1.68 lakh new COVID-19 incidents in the last 24 hours.

According to a report released by the Union health ministry on Monday morning, the total number of cases has now reached 13,527,717.

The number of deaths caused by the virus has increased, with 904 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. More than 900 deaths were last reported in October 2020.

A total of 12,156,529 recoveries were reported on Monday.

The new wave, which has been linked to a rise in transmissibility, has lowered the country's recovery rate, which is currently over 90%.

In February, it was over 97 percent, making it one of the highest rates in the world.

The number of active cases in the country has exceeded the September high and now stands at over 1.2 million.

On the same day two months earlier, the positivity rate was 1.29 % ; on Monday, it was 8.29 %.

The rise in COVID-19 cases coincides with the country's continued administration of the most vaccine doses every day.

According to the health ministry, more than 10 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far.
