India reports 1,167 COVID related deaths over 24 hours, lowest since April

NEW DELHI: India reported 42,640 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 91 days, and 1,167 deaths the lowest since April 14, according to the union health ministry.

The overall number of coronavirus cases in the country has now reached 29,977,861.

The number of new deaths in the country has dropped dramatically with only 1,167 deaths. The death toll has now reached 389,302.

With 81,839 discharges in a day, a total of 2,89,26,038 persons has been released so far.

The number of active cases fell to 6,62,521 for the first time since early April.

Kerala added 7,449 new cases to India's total today, making it the state with the most new cases.

After Kerala, followed by Maharashtra with 6,270, Tamil Nadu with 7,427, Andhra Pradesh with 2,620, Karnataka with 4,867, Delhi with 89, and West Bengal with 2,184.

Maharashtra (5,972,781), Karnataka (2,806,453), Kerala (2,809,394), Tamil Nadu (2,422,497) and Andhra Pradesh (1,850,563) are the five states with the highest cases .
