India records 2.17 lakh fresh COVID cases; 1185 deaths over past 24 hours

NEW DELHI: The number of new coronavirus cases in India recorded a daily high today with 2,17,353 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

In the last nine days, this was the eighth consecutive daily rise.

According to the health ministry's dashboard as many as, 1185 people died as a result of the coronavirus disease during the period.

The number of people infected in the world has now reached 1,42,91,917 with 1,73,123 people dying as a result.

As the country grapples with the pandemic's second wave, India's infection rate has expanded quickly.

Currently, the country has 15,69,743 active cases, and total recoveries stood at 1,25,47,866.

The number of active cases rose to 14,71,877, accounting for 10.46 per cent of all infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate fell to 88.31 per cent.

Meanwhile, the health ministry reports the country has given out over 11.7 crore coronavirus vaccine doses as of Thursday evening.

To further bolster the campaign, the national drug controller assured that once foreign-made vaccines have been approved for emergency use in the country, applications will be processed in just three days.

Till date, 11,70,96,037 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, with 1,02,90,850 frontline workers receiving their first dose and 51,51,557 receiving their second dose.
