India reports 81,466 fresh Covid-19 cases, 469 deaths over 24 hour

NEW DELHI: With the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in India, the country saw its highest single-day increase in six months, with 81,466 new cases of coronavirus recorded in just 24 hours.

This took the tally to 1,23,03,131, according to data of the Union Health Ministry.

The spike in cases in a single day is the largest since October 2, 2020, while the death toll rose to 1,63,396 with 469 daily new deaths, the highest since December 6, 2020.

The active caseload in the country is now 6,14,696, accounting for 5% of all infections, while 1,15,25,039 people have recovered from the disease for the 23rd day in a row.

According to the results, the recovery rate has fallen to 93.67 percent.

According to the ICMR, 24,59,12,587 samples were tested upto April 1, with 11,13,966 samples tested on Thursday.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country reached 6.75 crores.

As per the provisional report a total of 6,75,36,392 vaccine doses were administered on April 1.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), these include 88,48,558 health care staff (HCWs) who took the first dose and 52,63,108 HCWs who took the second dose, 93,99,776 frontline workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 39,18,646 FLWs (2nd dose), and 4,01,06,304 for those over 45 years old.
