India revises guidelines for international passengers amid Omicron alarm

NEW DELHI: The Union Health Ministry revises guidelines for international arrivals in India to be effective from December 1.

The Central government has also made it compulsory to submit 14 days travel details, uploading negative RT-PCR test report on Air Suvidha portal before the journey.

As per Health Ministry's guidelines, travellers from 'countries at-risk' will need to take COVID test post arrival & wait for results at airport.If tested negative they'll follow, home quarantine for 7 days. Re-test on 8th day and if negative, further self-monitor for next 7 days.

Health Ministry guidelines: Travellers from countries excluding those 'countries at risk' will be allowed to leave airport & shall self-monitor health for 14 days. A sub-section (5% of total flight passengers) shall undergo post-arrival testing at random at the airport on arrival

The countries assigned at-risk by the government are - South Africa, China, the United Kingdom, European countries, Bangladesh, Brazil, Botswana, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Israel.

The government earlier held meetings with top officials and the health ministry over the omicron variant. The decision to resume regular international flight services from December 15 will be reviewed in the changed situation.
