Guwahati, September 15, 2019:

In a latest video which has gone viral on social media platforms, Indian and American soldiers can be seen singing and dancing to the Assam Regiment's marching song ‘Badluram Ka Badan Zameen ke Neeche Hai’.

The jawans jointly performed the song during exercise 'Yudh Abhyas' being carried out at Joint Base Lewis, McChord in the United States of America.

The song of the Assam Regiment has a rather interesting genesis: During the World War, Assam Regiment soldiers were fighting the Japanese soldiers in Burma. They used to get regular ration as per the soldier count. One soldier called Badluram died, but the Quarter Master didn't report it. So, the soldiers kept getting extra ration in the name of Badluram. When the soldiers got surrounded by Japs, they had no source of rations. But the extra ration of Badluram proved to be helpful in surviving for the soldiers. So, the soldiers started singing this song to keep their spirits up.

It may be mentioned here that Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2019 is being conducted at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, USA from September 5 to September 18. It is one of the largest joint running military training and defence corporation endeavors between India and USA. This is the 15th edition of the joint exercise which is hosted alternately between the two countries.

Exercise Yudh Abhyas provides an opportunity to the armed forces of both the countries to train in an integrated manner at Battalion level with joint planning at the Brigade level.
