Indian Army Jawan Martyred During Counter Terrorist Operation, 3 Terrorists Neutralized

In a counter terrorist operation, an Indian Army Jawan, Naik Rajendra Singh, was critically injured and attained martyrdom when, in a display of raw courage, intercepted a terrorist who was trying to flee.

Hailing from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Naik Rajendra Singh (27), is survived by his wife, Jamana Kanwar.

At about 6 pm on September 28 at Km 7 of National Highway 244, the Road Opening Party of Indian Army intercepted a group of three terrorists, on receipt of specific intelligence input.

On being challenged, the terrorists opened fire and ran towards Batote town.

The Road Opening Party, along with Quick Reaction Team of Army, JKP, CAPF and SSB maintained hot pursuit. In a desperate attempt to break contact, the terrorists entered a civil house, taking a resident as hostage. The area was effectively cordoned off and saturated by Security Forces.

In order to secure safe release of the hostage, Security Forces exercised utmost restraint, and even urged the terrorists to surrender. However, the terrorists continued to fire from inside the house.

In a surgical operation by the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of the Indian Army, all three terrorists were neutralized and the hostage, identified as Vijay Kumar Verma, was rescued safely.

However, Jawan Naik Rajendra Singh was martyred during the process.
