Jammu&Kashmir: Two Pakistani militants were shot dead in an encounter and two Indian soldiers were killed in action along the Line of Control yesterday, said a defence spokesperson in J&K.

In as many days, this was the second encounter along the Line of Control.

The Indian army has increased up seek and destroy missions in Jammu and Kashmir and along the Line of Control less than a month after the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba launched a drone strike on an Indian Air Force facility in Jammu.

Based on information concerning infiltration and movement of terrorists in Dadal, Sundarbani sector, Rajouri district, the army initiated extensive search operations on June 29, said a defence spokeswoman in a statement.

"On July 8, the intelligence was corroborated, and a search and destroy patrol looking for a proactive confrontation with the terrorists saw them in Dadal woodland and challenged them," he said.

According to reports, the terrorists opened fire and hurled hand grenades, resulting in a fierce argument in which two Pakistani militants were killed and two jawans resulted in the death of their injuries during the operation.

A thorough search of the region is still underway "he stated.

The ceasefire along the Line of Control appears to be on shaky ground at the moment.
