MORAN: Sensation prevails in Assam's Moran after a two-month-old baby passed away two days after receiving a polio vaccine during an inoculation drive on March 17.

The deceased, identified as Priyanshu Debnath, was a son of Raju Debnath, a resident of the Hathkhola area under Moran town.

Hours after being inoculated against polio on March 17, the baby developed a fever.

His health continued to deteriorate and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, locals have been alleging that the baby died because of adverse effects of the vaccine.

Doctors and the medical staff have asked the parents to have a post-mortem done, which they refused.

They claimed that if they conduct a post-mortem to identify the cause of his death, doctors might change it or make a fake report.

Speaking to the media, a local alleged that hospital staff have also misbehaved with them. However, the hospital staff has denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Sub-divisional Commissioner (SDC) has apologized on behalf of the medical staff of the hospital "if they have committed any mistakes" and assured legal action against it.

She also stated that the other children will also be provided with proper treatment free of cost.
