The director-general of civil aviation (DGCA) said today that international scheduled flights under select routes would continue to operate on a "case-by-case" basis.

The restriction would not extend to international all-cargo operations or flights that the DGCA has expressly approved, it added.

Many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and Kuwait, have banned flights from India due to COVID-19 cases and the presence of the "double mutant" virus in the region.

Owing to an unprecedented increase in COVID-19 cases, Australia has suspended all direct passenger flights from India for the next three weeks.
