New Delhi, January 8, 2020:

Iran fired twelve ballistic missiles at the US military bases in Iraq on Wednesday morning. The attacks on the military bases came after Iran vowed to retaliate against the US after President Donald Trump ordered the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.

Iran targeted two Iraqi airbases, Al-Assad and Irbil, to launch the attacks where American and coalition forces are based, reports said. The Pentagon confirmed that the first attacks were launched at 5:30 PM on Tuesday.  The second round of attacks against the American targets began an hour after the first one.

No casualties have been reported so far. US President Donald Trump tweeted, “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good!”

On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, tweeted a statement that said, “We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression”.

It may be mentioned here that tensions between the US and Iran have escalated with the Iranian General Soleimani’s assassination last week.
