New Delhi, February 16, 2020:

A CCTV footage released by Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC), a group comprising students and alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia University, has revealed the brutality of Delhi cops meted out to students studying at Jamia’s Old Reading Hall on the evening of December 15 last year.

The CCTV clip shows Delhi cops entering the hall wearing riot gear and beating up students who were studying. It shows the cops entering and hitting students of Jamia with batons until they leave the hall.

JCC, in a statement, said, “The CCTV footage shows the brutal act of police forces and how the state-sponsored terrorists are playing the game of brutality on the students of Jamia who were preparing for their examination inside the Old Reading Hall of Library.”

It may be mentioned here that on December 15, 2019, a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA near Jamia had turned violent. The protesters pelted stones at police and had set public buses and private vehicles on fire.

JCC, sharing the video on its Twitter handle, wrote, “Exclusive CCTV Footage of Police Brutality in Old Reading Hall, First floor-M.A/M.Phill Section on 15/12/2019 Shame on you @DelhiPolice.”

JNU’s Umar Khalid wrote, “Delhi Police showing their 'bravery' by beating up students studying inside Jamia library. Two months later, CCTV footage of the Night of Terror in Jamia is out. A student lost his eye because of such police brutality on 15th December Question still remains, at whose orders?”
