Jintu Gogoi Tribute Tournament underway

Guwahati, December 19, 2018:

The annual Captain Jintu Gogoi Veer Chakra Memorial Football Tournament is underway. The football tournament is a tribute to Kargil Martyr and Assam’s ‘Bir Chilarai’, late-Captain Jintu Gogoi with an aim to provide opportunities to local teams and encourage their talent.

The tournament kicked off on December 16 during Vijay Diwas at Army Polo Ground, Paltan Bazar, and was inaugurated by Assam litterateur Tilo Sonowal, a recipient of Dr. Ambedkar Sahityashree National Award, and Flying Officer TR Gogoi, father of Captain Jintu Gogoi. The grand opening ceremony was witnessed by a large crowd.

The tournament, in its 15^th iteration now, has become a platform for footballers from the state to showcase their talents. Twenty-one college teams from Upper Assam are participating in the tournament. The final is slated to be held on December 29.
