JORHAT: The Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) authorities have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) after an incident of forging the signature of its Superintendent in 12 fake RT-PCR reports of COVID-19 came to light.

The fake RT-PCR reports were issued under the name of Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory Department (VRDL) of the college on July 14.

JMCH Authority:

Speaking with InsideNE, JMCH Superintendent Dr. Purnima Baruah said, "This was brought to our notice by a travel agent first. Since they get to see a lot of such reports on a daily basis hence he got suspicious with the reports (fake) and informed us."

The fake reports did not have any QR Code like an authentic report which helped the authorities bust it.

"Not one or two,  but 12 such reports were issued under a contact number. Now we do not know whether it's from the same or from different families," Dr. Barua added.

The fake RT-PCR reports have forged signatures of the laboratory officials as well.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.
