Jorhat Addl. SP Files FIR against 14 Police Officers

Guwahati, August 20, 2019:

Jorhat Additional Superintendent of Police, Prakash Sonowal has filed First Hand Information (FIR) against 14 cops for not filing charge sheets of some cases even after completion of an investigation.

The FIR was filed in the Jorhat Police Station with charges of conspiracy, forgery, and theft for not submitting charge sheets despite showing that they did submit all the required documents.

Sonowal told TOI that it was a departmental initiative and he had filed the FIR in an official capacity as directed by the Jorhat SP. He further informed that the investigation was on.

The 14 police officers were booked under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), 379 (theft), 466 (forgery of record or public documents), 204 (destruction of documents or electronic records to prevent production as evidence), 205 (false personation for purpose of act or proceeding in suit or prosecution) and 217 (public-serving disobeying direction of law with intention to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

The officers have been accused of destroying vital documents with the motive to save the culprits.
