Jorhat, March 30, 2019:

The BJP’s Lok Sabha nominee from Jorhat Constituency, Topon Kumar Gogoi, has allegedly been caught violating the Model Code of Conduct enforced by the Election Commission of India.

This shocking revelation came to light when local administration seized 91,000 LeD bulbs in 955 cartons with the faces of Topon Kumar Gogoi and Assam’s Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, printed on them. It is being alleged that these boxes were being kept for free distribution to locals in a bid to woo voters to vote for the saffron party’s candidate, Gogoi. It may be mentioned that Gogoi is also serving as the Power Minister in the state.

It may be mentioned that numerous such incidents of freebie distribution have been reported across Assam and especially in Upper Assam district Tinkusia where the BJP members have reportedly been distributing these ‘gifts’ before polls in a direct violation of the model code of conduct.

The Model Code of Conduct came into effect on the day the Election Commission announced the schedule of the Lok Sabha elections on 10 March 2019.
