Guwahati, February 5, 2020:

Cyclist Jyothi Rongala is on a mission to prove that roads are safe for women in India. The cyclist has already completed 18,000 km on her cycle and now has another goal to eye for. She wants to set the Guinness Record.

A felicitation programme was hosted by the organization called RAISED to honor Jyothi Rongala for her feat in campaigning through cycling.

“I am on a cycling expedition. This journey is about covering 30,000 km within India. It comes under the title ‘Longes Distance Cycled within a Single Country’. I’m on this journey without money, absolutely cashless. So when I say that I don’t have any ATM card or net banking or any money, I mean that I am totally dependent on the kindness of the people I meet,” said Jyothi.

The cyclist has covered 26 states so far and 18,200 km. The current world record is by Australia. Benjamin Woods has covered 19,000 km but Jyothi’s target is 30,000 km.

Jyothi calls her journey “epic”. The cyclist cycles for 100 km a day. In hilly terrains it comes down to about 30-34 km. It may be mentioned here that Rongala, a former mountaineer, started her cycling tour in January 2017 from Hyderabad. However, after an accident in April 2017, she decided to stop her Journey in Delhi. She resumed her solo tour in January, 2019.
