Kamrup DC Kailash Karthik tests COVID-19 positive; goes into home isolation

AMINGAON: Kamrup deputy commissioner Kailash Karthik today tested positive for COVID-19.

He was reportedly taken ill after the third and final phase of Assam assembly elections on April 6. The DC is currently in home isolation.

Assam recorded 352 fresh COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the active caseload to 1902 in the current wave of the pandemic.

One person succumbed to the disease during the period. The death was reported from Lakhimpur district.

Kamrup (Metro) reported the highest number of 186 COVID-19 positive cases followed by Dibrugarh with 23, Nagaon 18 and Tinsukia 17 cases.

The new cases have been detected out of 73,329 tests conducted over the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 36 patients were discharged while the recoveries have touched 2,15,943 at a rate of 98.02 per cent.

The death rate stood at 0.51 per cent with 1,118 deaths.
