Karbi Anglong Observes 14th 'National Mourning Day' at Charchim-Prisek

Diphu, October 17, 2019:

The Karbi Anglong administration on October 17 observed the 'National Mourning Day' for the victims of the Karbi-Dimasa clash on 17 October 2005, at Charchim-prisek.

CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang, MP Horensing Bey, and several other dignitaries paid their tributes to the victims at Charchim- Prisek. A moment of silence was also observed to pay homage to the victims.

The gathering mourned the death of the 42 people who were butchered inside a bus at Charchim Prisek on October 17, 2005, by an armed terrorist group.

The victims' families have been paid a remuneration amount of Rs. 5 lakh each. At the sacred place of Charchim, a Prayer Hall will be built to remember the deceased. CEM Ronghang revealed that in the next Executive Committee Meeting, a discussion will be held regarding the holiday declaration on 17th October as a Mourning Day. Blankets and  mosquito nets through Dongkamukam Municipal Board have also been distributed to the beneficiaries. Also, exercise notebooks, pencils, and pens were distributed to local students by the Ajir Aroi Mukak Aterank Hamren.

In the programme Hill Tribal League Chairmen Saising Rongpi, All India Karbi Student Union President Enush Timung, Karbi Students' Association, Dimasa Students' Union and social organizations, were also present.
