Diphu, August 24, 2019:

The Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) has written a memorandum to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal seeking a separate state for the Karbi people.

The organization was established in 2011, with aim of establishing a separate state for the Karbi people. They soon took up arms to meet their demand, however, that paid no dividend.

Ever since October 20, 2016, the militants have been engaged in peace talks with the Government. Seeking a separate state under the provisions of the article 244 (A), they forwarded a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at New Delhi in the Foundation laying ceremony of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan on August 19.

A press conference was held at the Chutianala KPLT designated camp in the memorandum, it was enlisted that at present in Diphu 5th mile Chutianala, there are altogether 250 members of the group facing the difficulties in lodging and fooding facilities.

Thus, they urged the Government to help them. Many of the senior members of the organization were present during the conference.

Meanwhile, the demand for an autonomous State in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao has picked up steam after Karbi Anglong's CEM Tuliram Ronghang submitted a memorandum to Shah demanding a separate Karbi Anglong under Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution.

Opining on this matter, Assam's Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary recently told Inside Northeast, “Since Karbi Anglong CEM Tuliram Ronghang had submitted a memorandum to Amit Shah right in front of Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, it is evident that the demand for Autonomous States has indeed gained momentum”, said Daimary, further adding that “this demand has taken a new turn, as BJP, congress, as well indigenous organizations are demanding an autonomous state, all are united in their demand..”
