Karnataka bans all protests, rallies, public gatherings to curb COVID-19 spread

BENGALURU: With the rising COVID-19 cases in the state, Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday declared that the government has decided to ban all forms of protests in the state for the next 15 days starting today.

The move comes even though the possibility of a lockdown, for the time being, is dismissed.

Officials have been ordered to take strict action against those who do not wear masks starting today.

Earlier yesterday, along with senior ministers and government officials, the chief minister reviewed the COVID situation in Bengaluru city and other significant districts.

"COVID cases are increasing at an alarming pace in Bengaluru, which is cause for concern.

In the last 14 days, the daily average case count has been around 1,377, with 16,921 positive cases "According to CM Yediyurappa.

Moreover, tracing, testing, and treatment are being strengthened.

The chief minister also urged the people to follow COVID-19 restrictions and stop crowding; otherwise, bringing the situation under control would be extremely difficult.

The TPR in the state rose to 3.2 percent on Monday, up from 0.62 percent on February 28.

On Monday, Bengaluru urban registered 1742 new Covid-19 cases out of a total of 2799 from across the state.

Meanwhile, the department of health and family welfare services related 16 more deaths have been reported in the last few days till yesterday.

He said the state assembly's Leader of the Opposition, Siddaramaiah, had written to him about containing the second wave of COVID-19 scientifically without enforcing any lockdown that would disrupt normal life.

PDRM has confirmed that the kindergarten teacher, who was caught shoving a child in a viral video, is being probed for abuse. Shah Alam police chief ACP Baharudin Mat says the woman, who works at a facility in Jalan Kebun, will soon be called in to provide a statement.
