Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa, who was admitted to hospital after testing positive for the COVID-19, is clinically stable, the doctors said.

“Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa has been admitted to the hospital for observation. He is doing well, is clinically stable, and will be monitored closely by our team,” the Manipal Hospital said in a health bulletin on August 3rd, 2020.

Yediyurappa had announced on Twitter yesterday that he had tested positive for the disease. “I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine,” Yediyurappa said in his post.

Karnataka’s COVID-19 tally now stands at 1,34,819 positive cases, including 74,590 active cases and 57,725 discharged patients. So far, 2,496 deaths have been reported in the state.

India recorded over 50,000 coronavirus cases for a 5th consecutive day, taking its tally way past the 1,800,000 mark. India's death toll now stands at 38,161. The states that have reported the biggest 24-hour jump in active cases are West Bengal (2,739), Madhya Pradesh (921), Mizoram (55). Five most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (4,41,228), Tamil Nadu (251,738), Andhra Pradesh (1,58,764), Delhi (137,677), and Karnataka (1,34,819). Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa were reported to be among prominent political leaders who have tested positive for coronavirus. The two tested positive on Sunday.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 13 thousand deaths. It has recorded 148843 active corona cases, 276809 cured and 15576 deaths. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has 10356 active corona cases, 123317 cured and 4004 deaths. Tamil Nadu has 56998 active cases, 4132 deaths. Gujarat with 14572 active COVID-19 cases, 46504 cured and 2486 deaths.
