Bangaluru, July 6, 2019:

There is fresh trouble brewing for the Karnataka coalition government as eight Congress and three JD(S) MLAs have submitted their resignation at the Assembly Speaker’s office on Saturday.

With this, the number of the Congress and the JD(S) members have reduced to 69 and 34, respectively.

With the resignations, the Congress-JDS coalition tally will reduce to 103 seats, but more significantly, the overall strength of the House will now fall to 211. This, in turn, means that the effective simple majority mark will be 106 seats — one less than what the BJP already has.

Meanwhile, the BJP unit in the state will be rubbing their hands in glee as the party’s central leadership is more intent on playing the waiting game and allow infighting and contradictions in the coalition to bring down the government.

It has been suggested that by top BJP leaders that B S Yeddyurappa will be Chief Ministers if the coalition Government falters for good.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa has said that the BJP not have any hand in the resignations. The party will see what the Speaker does and have no plans go to Raj Bhavan as of yet, he added.

Following the resignations, Karnataka Congress in-charge KC Venugopal has left for Bengaluru.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumuraswamy, who is currently is the US, is expected to return to the state tomorrow.

The following Congress MLAs reportedly tendered their resignation today: Ramalinga Reddy (BTM Layout), BC Patil (Hirekerur), Pratapgouda Patil (Maski), Shivaram Hebbar (Yellapur), Mahesh Kumathalli (Athani), ST Somashekhar (Yeshwanthpur), Byrati Basavaraj (KR Puram), and Soumya Reddy (Jayanagar).

The following JD(S) MLAs reportedly resigned at the Speaker's office today: H Vishwanath (Hunsur), Narayan Gowda (Krishnarajpet), and K Gopalaiah (Mahalakshmi Layout).
