Kerala Chief Minister tests positive for COVID-19

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has tested positive for COVID-19 today.

According to reports, the CM, who is currently at his residence in Kannur in North Kerala is stable and is not having major health-related difficulties at present.

The chief minister is currently asymptomatic. However, he would most likely be shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College.

Earlier, his son-in-law P A Mohammed Riyas and daughter Veena Vijayan had tested positive.

Vijayan had toured the state extensively as part of his electioneering for the April 6 Assembly elections.

For the past few weeks, Kerala has seen an increase in Covid-19 cases. The state reported 3,502 new Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths on Wednesday.

The total number of cases registered in the state now stands at 11,44,594, with a death toll of 4,710.

Meanwhile, 1,955 people were discharged on Wednesday after recovering, bringing the total number of people healed in the state to 11,08,078.

Currently, the state has 31,493 people undergoing treatment and 1,52,136 people under observation, with 4,928 of those in isolation wards.
