The South Salmara Mankachar (SSM) unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) district unit has demanded re-organization of the newly-created SSM district.

Addressing the media, Chief advisor of KMSS district committee, Advocate Anisur Rahman put forth the demand. He added, “It is a fact that this newly created district was upgraded to South-Salmara sub-division in the year 2014. The police station covers the whole area of sub-division. However, on 25 Jan 2016, when the civil administration district was declared it become smaller due to excluded the area of Fakirganj Zila Parishad Constituency, Jaura Birshing Development Block and Jamadarhat Development Block. And as such, it became problematic to cope with the administration as the SP office is at Hatsingimari and DC office is at Dhubri, due to which it takes 6 hours to correspond across the Brahmaputra river...”

Rahman added, “For boundary dispute, a committee already been formed under Home and Political Department of Assam for migration.”

He further alleged that since the inception of the district, problems of the people have been ignored. “Some political leaders have built their houses at Dhubri town and with their vested interest in that area. Along with that, the officers are interested in Dhubri town,” he added.
