MORAN: About 25 members of the Lengeri unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today staged a 25-hour hunger strike at Moran Bamunbari Tiniali in Dibrugarh district demanding CBI probe into the Assam Police sub inspectors recruitment scandal and bringing Tingkhong’s BJP MLA Bimal Borah under the purview of the inquiry.

The KMSS activists also demanded unconditional release of its jailed leader Akhil Gogoi and repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

Staging the hunger strike, KMSS Lengeri unit president Debojit Gogoi said: “Since the probe into the SI recruitment scandal is making no headway, we demand it should be handed over to the CBI. Since the name of our Tingkhong MLA has also come up in the scandal, we are feeling ashamed. We damand he should also be investigated as part of the inquiry by the CBI.”

The peasant activist also said they demanded repeal of the “contentious CAA at the earliest”.

“Besides, we demand immediate unconditional release of Assam’s thunderous voice Akhil Gogoi. The BJP government in the state tends to forget that the people have voted them to power. They are murdering democracy. They are putting people behind bars for speaking the truth,” Gogoi said.

He also threatened that further agitational programme will be launched soon demanding release of the peasant leader.

The Tingkhong unit of the CPI (ML) also took out a protest march from Juria Aai Thaan to the Tingkhong circle office demanding CBI inquiry into the SI recruitment scandal and trial of Borah. About 200 party workers submitted separate memoranda to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The party workers also demanded abrogation of the three contentious farm laws, increasing tea workers daily wage to Rs 351 and control on price rise among others.
