Kokrajhar Govt college celebrates pre-Bwisagu

KOKRAJHAR: Along with the various organisations, educational institutions in parts of Assam, Kokrajhar Government college has also celebrated Pre Bwisagu (Bohag Bihu) with full enthusiasm and joy.

The college organised the day long colourful programme at the college premises under the aegis of college students union of 2020-21.

The celebration started with a trip to Baokhungri hill for plucking and collecting wild leafy vegetables, which has been practiced as tradition among the Bodo community since time immemorial.

The college has been celebrating this festival and its pre-celebration for the last five years.

Speaking to media a professor of the college said, “There are students who belongs from various casts and religions and as the festival of Bihu in Assam is an identity for all living in the state, we have been celebrating the festival every year.

As the festival of Bihu, or Rongali Bihu, a harvest festival of Assam, which symbolises the start of the Assamese New Year is grandly celebrated in the state, the college orgaised its pre-celebration on April 10 holding various programmes such are dance, singing, etc.

All students were seen in traditional attires like dhoti, gamosa, and saadar mekhela.

While some were dancing in Bodo song, some were seen dancing in folk songs dedicated to Bihu.

Bohag Bihu, also known as Rongali Bihu, is one of the most major festivals in Assam, which marks the start of the Assamese New Year. The festival takes place in mid-April and lasts for seven days; this year, Bohag Bihu will take place from April 14 to April 20.

Moreover, earlier this week, the state government notified a fresh set of guidelines for the ahead of the Bohag Bihu celebrations in the state, which is bound to draw massive crowds, and thereby increase the chances of transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
