Labour Association Warns of Indefinite Economic Block

Moreh, October 4, 2019:

The All Tribals Sands and Stones Labour Association Moreh (ATSSLAM) has warned to impose an indefinite economic block along the Imphal-Moreh road, following the Manipur state government’s prohibition on sand and stone transportation through the route.

The Association has given a deadline of 48 hours to the Government. According to the ATSSLAM, more than 30 vehicles were left stranded at K Zalenmuol for the last 4 days after the Assam Rifles at Khudengthabi did not let them pass through the check gate.

The association stated that the Assam Rifles was prohibiting the movement of vehicles as per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Tengnoupal.

However, Tengnoupal denied that he had ordered any such directions when the association met him.

ATSSLAM showed the statement of the DC to 12 Assam Rifles, which in turn, directed them to obtain a Transit Pass and other related documents from the Forest Department. However, the latter said that the Transit Pass for transportation of sand and stone was to be obtained from the Industry department instead.

The association further stated that ATSSLAM met Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and requested him to allow the transportation of sand and stone through the Imphal-Moreh. Singh has directed the DC to allow the transportation at the earliest.
