GUWAHATI: Tripura's deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Verma yesterday claimed that the ousted Left party in Tripura is eyeing to make a comeback using the Pradyot Manikya-led TIPRA as a crutch.

Dev Verma said this on Saturday while releasing the poll manifesto for the ensuing TTAADC elections, the day after the Congress party released its set of pre-poll promises.

Addressing the press at the party's state headquarters, Dev Verma said, "In the district council areas, rarely a flag, festoon, or a banner of the CPM party can be seen. The polymorphic Left is now exploring ways to make a backdoor entry and for that, they have chosen the symbol of pineapple (the poll symbol of Pradyot Kishore Debbarman led TIPRA)".

According to him, the BJP also supports the call of "thansa" or unity as unity stands for progress but for that, the BJP will never fight the elections making any clandestine settlement with the CPM as "many of the BJP workers were killed by the CPM."

The plan of BJP is to develop the ADC areas giving it a new shape but they (TIPRA) had only one agenda to unite Tiparasa, he added.

BJP's initiatives like renaming Agartala airport into MBB Airport, declaration of holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram were also aimed to unify and give honour to the Janajati society of the state. "But, our opponents were just busy in delivering high pitch speeches on the stage", said Dev Varma.

"We want a CPM-mukt ADC and we will never allow this party to wrest power in the ensuing elections through any other symbol be it the party's own or the borrowed one from TIPRA", said Dev Varma.

Taking over from him, BJP state president Manik Saha explained the points of the manifesto one by one that included a range of issues including the setting up of a modern city at TTAADC headquarters of the state, improved roads, and water supply facilities in the district council areas.

According to Saha, BJP wants to give deserving respect to the languages spoken by the indigenous people of Tripura and it has been included in the Manifesto as a significant point.

"The party if voted power would take adequate initiatives to arrange market linkages for the traditional textile products of Tripura tribes and it would also promote the products that are being made through PM Dhan Yojana," he said.

He also promised to set up hostels in Bangalore, Delhi, and other states where a huge number of students go every year to study.

Saha also told the press that his party would help the Janajati families to get their land back which had once been forcefully occupied by non-tribals.

In sports, the party has promised to establish a martial arts and a football academy since Saha felt that "the tribals have the potential to represent the state in national and international sporting events."

Moreover, he also said that attempts would be taken to promote jhum (shifting cultivation) products as organic products and emphasis would be laid upon transparent recruitment rules and scientific transition of traditional healing processes of the tribes.
