Lok Sabha Polls: BJP nudges out Congress in Assam, wins 9 seats compared to Congress' 3

Guwahati, May 24, 2019:

The greatest carnival of democracy, the Lok Sabha election 2019, has officially come to an end and the people of the nation have given their verdict.

There was a saffron surge in the Northeast Indian State of Assam as the BJP party swept nine out of the fourteen seats in the State. The Congress secured three victories, while the lone seat f.or the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) was won by party chief Badruddin Ajmal in Dhubri. Independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania won in Kokrajhar.

A saffron wave was witnessed all over India as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cruised to victory in many 303 Constituencies all over the country, securing one of the largest mandates in the history of the nation. The 'magic number' needed to form the Government was 272 seats.

Complete list of winners along with Constituency:

Jorhat: Topon Kumar Gogoi (BJP) won 5,43,288 votes in comparison to nearest rival Sushanta Borgohain's tally of 4,60,635 votes.

Silchar: Rajdeep Roy (BJP) won 4,99,414 votes in comparison to nearest rival Sushmita Dev's tally of 4,17,818 votes.

Karimganj: Kripanath Mallah (BJP) won 4,73,046 votes and narrowly defeated the AIUDF candidate who got 4,34,657.

Tezpur: Pallab Lochan Das (BJP) won 6,84,166 votes against 4,41,325 votes for his nearest rival, MGVK Bhanu.

Lakhimpur: Pradan Baruah (BJP) won 7,76,406 votes, while his rival, Anil Borgohain of the Congress won 4,25,855 votes.

Gauhati: Queen Oja (BJP) won 10,08,936 votes in comparison to nearest rival Bobbeeta Sharma's 6,63,330 votes.

Dibrugarh: Rameswar Teli (BJP) won 6,59,583 votes, while his rival, former MP Paban Singh Ghatowar won 2,95,017 votes.

Mangaldoi: Dilip Saikia of the BJP recorded a massive victory in Mangaldai Constituency and won 7,35,469 votes in comparison to the Congress candidate Bhubaneshwar Kalita's 5,96,924.

Autonomous Council: Horensing Bey (BJP) won 3,81,316 votes, while sitting MP Biren Sing Engti trailed far behind with 1,41,690 votes.

Kaliabor: Gaurav Gogoi (Congress) won 7,86,092 votes, while the AGP's Moni Madhab Mahanta won 5,76,098 votes.

Barpeta: Abdul Khaleque (Congress) won 6,45,173 as against 5,04,866 votes for the AGP candidate Kumar Deepak Das.

Nowgong: Pradyut Bordoloi (Congress) won with 7,39,724 votes, while his closest rival Rupak Sarmah (BJP) barely missed the mark with 7,22,972 votes.

Dhubri: Badruddin Ajmal (AIUDF) clung onto power in his Constituency with a huge margin as he got 718,767 votes, in comparison to 4,92,506 for his nearest rival, Abu Taher Bepari.

Kokrajhar: Naba Kumar Sarania (Independent) won 4,84,560 votes, while nearest rival Pramila Rani Brahma of the BPF party won 4,46,774 votes.

It may be mentioned that the Lok Sabha election in Assam was held in three phases on April 11, 18, and 23. The counting of votes took place on May 23.
