GUWAHATI: Despite a wealth of information to be had from the internet -- such as her next match, opponents, awards, medals, -- many netizens seem more interested in Lovlina Borgohain's religion.

According to reports, 'Lovlina Borgohain's (23) religion' is now the third most searched topic in Google about the Indian boxer.

At a time when Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain who is representing India in the Tokyo Olympic Games and confirmed medal, netizens searching her religion seems faily absurd!

This illustrates yet again why religion is one of the most talked-about yet sensitive topics in the country.

Whenever a sensitive topic, such as religion, is brought up, the country has seen fights, wars, disagreements, and heated arguments.

However, sports seems to be one of the few topics that are not affected by religion as it does not differentiate or discriminate.

After reaching the semi-finals, Lovlina Borgohain made history by becoming the first woman from her state to guarantee medal for her country in boxing.

She accomplished this after 4-1 victory over Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei in the welterweight (69 kg) quarter-finals on July 30.

Lovlina (69 kg) reached the quarter-finals of the women’s welterweight (69-75kg) category after defeating Nadine Apetz of Germany in the Round of 16 at the Kokugikan Arena on Tuesday.

She is the second women’s boxer from India to win an Olympic medal.
