J&K, July 31, 2019:

Former Indian Skipper and Lt Col Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday flew to Jammu and Kashmir capital Srinagar where he will join the Territorial Army’s 106 Infantry Battalion to carry out the patrolling and guard duties in the valley.

Dhoni was spotted travelling in a flight en route to Srinagar wearing a Navy Blue shirt and cargo pants. The 38-year-old holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion).

It may be mentioned that the cricketing legend Dhoni took a two-month break from cricket in a bid to serve the Indian Army.

Four years back, the wicketkeeper-batsman had become a qualified paratrooper when he completed five parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircraft at the Agra training camp. Dhoni also came under fire for wearing the insignia of his regiment during the 2019 Cricket World Cup and was directed by the ICC not to do so.

A Dhoni-less Indian cricket team will next be seen in action in an 'away' series against West Indies which is scheduled to start from August 3. India will play three ODIs as many T20Is and two Test matches against the Caribbean nation.
