Lunar Eclipse to Coincide with 'Guru Purnima' in India after 149 Years

Guwahati, July 16, 2019:

A partial Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan can be watched almost throughout the night from all parts of India today.

The moon will go darkest after midnight. The eclipse will also be visible in parts of Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

In India, people can watch the 'Chandra Grahan' starting from 12.13 am on Wednesday. It will reach maximum eclipse at 3:00 am but it will transit into a partial lunar eclipse at 1.31 am after which this will enter into penumbral lunar eclipse after the partial lunar eclipse ends at 4.29 am which will end at 5.47 am.

The partial lunar eclipse will last for a total duration of 2 hours and 58 minutes and as a whole, it will be active for 5 hours and 34 minutes while.

The importance of this year’s Chandra Grahan is because of its position. This year, the Chandra Grahan is taking place with Guru Purnima on the same day after 149 years.

This is the Chandra Grahan of the year 2019 and the next Chandra Grahan will take place on May 26, 2021.

People living in other parts of the world like Europe, Africa, South America, and Australia can also watch this Chandra Grahan. People living near western and central regions can see the entire Chandra Grahan in India. Also, people living in the eastern part will be able to watch the partial lunar eclipse.

The next penumbral lunar eclipse will occur on January 10, 2020.

Meanwhile, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also wished the people of Assam on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
