Maharashtra Govt to Enact Law for 80% Job Reservation for Locals

Mumbai, November 29, 2019:

The newly formed Maharashtra government has promised to enact a law to reserve 80 percent jobs in the private sector for the local youths.

As part of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has planned the new measure to help boost development in the state.

The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress coalition government introduced the CMP and promised to enact the law hours after Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jayant Patil said that that the new law for reserving 80 percent seats would soon be enacted and would be applicable to the private sector.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led government has also promised loan waivers for farmers. Other initiatives introduced are revision of crop insurance, and constructing infrastructure for sustainable water supply to drought-affected areas, construction of rural roads and several other projects and investments have been planned.

The new government’s aim is also to uphold the secular values enshrined in the Constitution.
