Maharashtra Police Arrests Clerk of Jorhat DC Office in Fraud Case

Jorhat, January 28, 2020:

Maharashtra Police have arrested an employee serving as a clerk in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 77.8 lakh from the Jorhat district administration’s account.

The clerk, identified as Dipak Bora, had allegedly withdrawn the money from the account of Jorhat district administration at Central Bank of India’s Gar-Ali branch. According to reports, Bora had forged signatures of Jorhat Deputy Commissioner, Roshni A Korati and Financial and Accounts Officer, Bandana Devi in six cheques in 2019. The DC had filed a complaint with Jorhat Police Station in this connection.

Dipak Bora had fled following the case. Jorhat Police nabbed him with the help of Maharashtra Police. An amount of Rs 23.5 lakh was also recovered from Bora’s residence.

It may be mentioned here that Bora was suspended on July 23, 2019 on charges of swindling more than two lakh rupees, which were deposited by candidates during Panchayat Polls in December 2018 as security deposits.
