Turning down heavily on former allies Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) said that his party's primary goal in the forthcoming polls is to orchestrate the ouster of the latter from Assam's politics.

Hagrama Mohilary, the supremo of the BPF, reiterated his commitment towards ousting the BJP-led coalition government and installing a 'Mahajuth' (grand alliance).

In the polls, we will contest in all 12 Constituencies in the BTC. We will either contest against the UPPL or BJP -- no other party will be competing against us.

Setting a target of winning 70 Seats, Hagrama said, "We do not need 100 plus Seats to form the government. Therefore, we will have to win around 70 Seats in the polls."

Mohilary also inducted former Congressman Durga Das Boro into the party in the midst of supporters here.

"People might say that he is an outsider. However, that is not the case. He is a BTC resident although he has stayed in Guwahati all these years," said Hagrama.

Durga Das Boro, formerly of the Congress party, shall be contesting the polls on a BPF ticket. Das Boro shall be contesting from Kalaigaon.

Maheshwar Bodo — the sitting MLA — was earlier expected to receive a party ticket. However, party insiders have revealed that prominent Congress leader Durga Das Boro wants to contest from the Seat. BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary, however, said that he must contest on a BPF ticket.

It needs mention here that the BPF party has stitched a pre-poll alliance with the Congress in a bid to oust the saffron BJP from power.

Apart from Das Boro, the other candidates in the list are pretty much the ‘probables’ whose names were being floated earlier.

While Minister Rihon Daimary shall be contesting from the Udalguri (ST) Constituency, Charan Boro will be contesting from Mazbat, and Karuna Kanta Swargiary shall be contesting from the Paneri Constituency.

The Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is fielding candidates who have already proven their mettle as it heads to the polls with a clear intent to ‘defeat’ former allies ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’ that ditched its ally ahead of the Council elections before going on to form a coalition government with the UPPL and GSP parties.
