Manipur: 14-day total lockdown announced from July 23

Manipur Cabinet meeting on COVID-19 agrees for statewide complete lockdown for 14 days from 2:00 PM of July 23.

Manipur CM Biren Singh on the issue said, "In view of the current COVID-19 situation in Manipur, the emergency State cabinet meeting has decided to impose total lockdown for 7 days starting from 02:00 pm of July 23, 2020 which might be extended further for 7 more days. I appeal all to abide by lockdown guidelines".

This comes at a time, when there has been rising number of cases in Northeast India as well as in Manipur, with the state crossing more than 2000 cases.

Manipur and the Northeast

Assam has the highest COVID-19 cases in Northeast India followed by Tripura. Manipur has 3rd highest cases in the region.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India recorded the more than 37724 COVID-19 cases and 648 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1192915. The death toll is now 28732, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 411133 while 753050 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 327031 corona cases with 182217 cured, 12276 deaths, and 132538 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 125096 cases with 106118 cured, 3690 deaths, and 15288 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 180643 positive cases with 126670 cured, 2626 deaths 51347 active cases. Gujarat with 50379 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 36423 have been cured, 2196 deaths, and 11760 active cases.
