Manipur: 16-year old rape victim passes away, MCPCR highlights punishment for culprits

A 16-year old minor girl from Manipur who was reportedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and friends on Tuesday, 1stof September died at the RIMS ICU today afternoon after battling for her life.

Following the tragic incident, she was found on Wednesday morning, abandoned and unconscious in an isolated place in Kakching district with her alleged perpetrators leaving her there for good assuming her to be dead.

She was brought to RIMS and was kept at ICU where she lost the battle against life on thursday.

Following the death, locals stormed the residence of CM Biren demanding justice at the earliest.

In the afternoon around 12:30, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) held a meeting at the residence of its chairperson. Later, led by its chairman Sumatibala Ningthoujam, a team visited the family of the victim and participated in a meeting organised by JAC and CSOs wherein the Chairperson highlighted the need for rigorous punishment of the culprits under the POSCO Act, 2012 while also extending full support for the victim.
