Manipur: Baby boy born in quarantine centre named 'Covida'

A healthy baby boy named Covida, weighing around 4 kgs (Mother's name - Jasmine) was successfully delivered by medical team led by Dr. Nengpilhing, MO i/c of PHC Kalapahar under Kangpokpi district, Manipur at Tumnoupokpi Home Quarantine around 12:15 pm today. This is the second child a baby boy was born under PHC Kalapahar during this pandemic time.

Earlier also, a baby boy named Emmanuel Quarantino was delivered at Emmanuel School, Haipi Institutional Quarantine Centre. The woman and her husband have been lodged in the institutional quarantine centre set up at Emmanuel School, Haipi in Kangpokpi district since their return. The baby boy was born on the Pentecost Day  May 31st, 2020, at the Emmanuel School.  The parents decided to name the child Emmanuel Quarantino.

The incidents reveal that with rising cases, corona has become the new normal . As such, previously, Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh announced that the Manipur government has decided to extend the lockdown for another 15 days i.e. from 1st July- 15th July 2020. This was stated by him at the press conference held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister said that the Manipur government has also decided the opening of inter-district bus service from 1st July 2020 by maintaining SOPs and guidelines issued by the government. No other public transport system will be allowed during this period, he added. He appealed the people to strictly adhere to the SOPs and guidelines issued by the government to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chief Minister informed that the total number of positive cases is 1094, 432 cases have been discharged and at present, there 660 active cases. The recovery rate is 39.56 %, he added. He further maintained that the testing capacity has increased to nearly 2600 tests per day by getting new machines and engaging more persons. More than 50,000 samples have been taken, including for re-test and for testing frontline workers till now. Almost all test results have been declared, he added.
