Guwahati, February 5, 2019:

The Session Court of Senapati in Manipur has pronounced death sentence to the accused in the Ekou rape-cum-murder case.

The court sentenced death penalty to Y. Rohit alias Rajesh along with a fine of Rs 1000, life imprisonment to Y. Md. Farish Shah with a fine of Rs 1000, three years of imprisonment to Rehena with a fine of Rs 1000 and 6 months imprisonment to Farjina.

They have been convicted under section 302, 201, 202, 34/213 of the Indian Panel Code. This was recorded to be the fastest conviction secured in a rape and murder case in Manipur.

On August 14, 2018, Pukhrihongbam Memi Chanu was brutally raped and murdered by Rajesh and her body was disposed of into the Iril River with the help of Farish. Rehana helped them to clean the room where the victim was murdered.

Farjina, meanwhile, has been convicted for not informing the concerned authorities about the crime. The victim's family has been compensated with Rs. 10,00,000.
