Manipur Govt Freezes Separatists' Bank Accounts for 'Waging War Against India'

Imphal, November 3, 2019:

The Government of Manipur has issued an order to freeze the bank accounts of separatist leaders, Narengbam Samarjit and Yambem Biren, who had earlier formed a ‘government-in-exile’ in London.

Special secretary (home) Kh Raghumani Singh’s Friday order said, "There is reasonable grounds for suspicion that the money held in the individual bank accounts operated by the duo is intended for use of unlawful purpose and waging war against the lawfully and democratically established country of India and government of Manipur."

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Wednesday that the two separatists who announced the launch of the ‘Manipur government-in-exile’ London in the UK, have been booked. Biren Singh also said that an NIA probe will be recommended against them.

Addressing a press conference in London on Tuesday, Yamben Biren claimed himself to be the “Chief Minister of Manipur State Council” and Narengbam Samarjit claimed to be the “Minister of External Affairs and Defence of Manipur State Council”.

They said they were speaking on behalf of the ‘Maharaja of Manipur’ to formally launch the government-in-exile — “The Manipur State Council”.
