IMPHAL: In an Assam-like incident, health workers were allegedly attacked by a Covid patient's family members at Manipur's Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital in Imphal East district following the patient's death last night.

CCTV footage of the incident has recently gone viral all over social media.

In the video, the supposed relatives of the Covid-19 patient can be seen pushing a health worker on duty first, following which they can be seen carrying out vandalism inside the ICU ward.

Reportedly, the Covid patient, a 33-year-old woman, was admitted to the JNIMS on May 23 and succumbed to the virus later.

"My wife has been admitted in the due to Covid 19- unfortunately - we lost her last night -Dr. team couldn't save her- and out of frustration and angry some of our family members vandalized the public property - I appologize to the concerned authority for what had happened," the husband of the deceased woman later said, releasing a video.

Two people have been detained so far in connection with the incident.

On June 1, one doctor from Assam was brutally beaten up by a group of 26 people in Udali Covid Care Centre following a patient's death, of whom doctors could not even start the treatment before he died, and embarked outrage all across the state.

The Assam Police had arrested all of the accused immediately.
