Imphal, July 13, 2019:

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was discovered at the gate of the Imphal Public School, Canchipur near Manipur University at around 5.30 am on Saturday. A team of Manipur Bomb Detection and Disposal squad has safely disposed the IED planted by the suspected underground activist(s) at Kyamgei Loukol, about a km from the School gate at around 10 am on Saturday.

L Jayanta, Chourkidar of the school said that when he came out to clean the gate of the school, the IED was found and soon he informed the concerned authorities for taking positive steps.

The Officer in Charge of the Singjamei Police Station said that the IED was packed in a plastic bag wherein gelatine explosive detonators with spike and nails were found inside a tin packed. The police at first used a long rope to draw the explosive material for its blasting. Following this method's failure to make the bomb explode, then the IED was removed by the bomb squad and later it was disposed at Kyamgei Loukol.

So far no insurgent outfit has claimed responsibility for planting the explosive.

It may be mentioned that an improvised explosive device is a bomb constructed and deployed in ways other than in conventional military action. It may be constructed of conventional military explosives, such as an artillery shell, attached to a detonating mechanism. IEDs are commonly used as roadside bombs.
