Manipur launches scheme to benefit children orphaned due to COVID-19

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Sunday launched the ‘Chief Minister Bal Seva Scheme’ to support and benefit the children who lost their parents due to COVID-19.

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched the ‘Chief Minister Bal Seva Scheme’ to support and benefit the children who lost their parents due to COVID-19.

Under the scheme, the government will provide a maintenance amount of Rs 3,500 per month to children who both their parents/surviving parent/legal guardians/adoptive parent to the pandemic and wish to live under the care of an extended family or guardian.

The children who do not have any extended family or grandparents or guardians will be kept in a child care institution.

The Centre has been providing Rs 2,160 for every child per month to child care institutions as a maintenance amount for those below 10 years of age and not having an extended family or guardian.

The Chief Minister informed that the stamp duty will be exempted in the registration of deceased parents’ property in the name of the children to protect the property rights.

Specific institutional care and education for adolescent girls will also be ensured under the scheme.

They would be given preference for admission in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas

After completion of 10th board, the students will be provided laptop as a one-time special assistance.
