23 July 2018:

In a drive, over 150 dozens of plastic carry bags were seized on Sunday by a combined team of Moreh Consumers’ Club (MCC) and Moreh Police in Manipur. The seizure was made to protect the environment from pollution.

A police team, led by the officer In-charge of Moreh Police Letkhohao Vaiphei, took part in the drive against polythene. It was conducted at Moreh Bazar, Super Market and nearby godowns of Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 2.

After confiscating plastic bags from shops, stalls and roadside vendors, the MCC imparted awareness to shop owners and vendors on the health hazards caused by plastic bags. It advised them to use biodegradable bags which are available in Moreh town.

Plastic bags, imported from Myanmar, are non-biodegradable and hazardous not only to human beings but also to aquatic lives. The MCC sought help and support from state and Central governments to make a pollution and plastic-free country by stopping the import of the bags from Myanmar and China.
