Manipur: Two newborns in quarantine named Covina and Covida

Even as the COVID-19 tally of Kangpokpi District, Manipur crossed 100-mark, the frontline health workers have made everyone smile again after successfully delivering two healthy babies at different Quarantine centres in the district on different date and occasion.

Born exactly after a month of the first quarantine baby, Emmanuel Quarantino, of the two newborn quarantine babies, the female baby was named Covina while the male baby was named Covida by the SDO concerned and the medical team respectively in Manipur.

For a Gurgaon returnee couple, Seigin alias Gin Hangshing and Nengminhoi Hangshing, July 1 will remain a memorable day as their first born baby girl was delivered at the Institutional Quarantine Centre where they are put under surveillance as per Government guidelines.

Seigin alias Gin Hangshing and his wife from Motbung Model village returned from Gurgaon on May 25 in a special Sharmik train and reached Kangpokpi via Jiribam on May 29. Since then, they are lodged at IGNTU-RCM, Makhan Institutional Quarantine Centre, Manipur along with hundred other returnees.

The couple had to stay back for more than 30 days at the IQCs as many positive cases among the inmates had been detected one after another. Almost 60 positive cases are reported from IGNTU-RCM Makhan Institutional Quarantine Centre till date.

The baby girl was delivered by a team of PHC Motbung led by Dr. Imocha and Dr. Kennedy with two sisters under the careful supervision of Dr. Nilakanta Singh, CMO Kangpokpi and Dr. Paotinlal Haokip, in-charge Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Kangpokpi at around 11:35 am on Wednesday morning at the Institutional Quarantine Centre where the couple stayed in a separate room.

The baby weight 2.8 Kg. and is healthy and lively while her mother have no immediate maternal complication or PPH.

Later, the baby girl and her parent were shifted at MTC Institutional Quarantine Centre from IGNTU-RCM Makhan, where she got the name ‘Covina’ from the in-charge IQCs of Kangpokpi block, Chunglenmang Kipgen, MCS, who visited the baby girl along with Addl.SP (Ops), Lalminlen Misao, MPS and Senior Journalist Kaybie Chongloi.

The parent were delighted to have a good name for their daughter from the MCS officer and conveyed their happiness while stating that she will be called as Covina as named by the MCS officer and team.

Meanwhile, two day later on July 3, a medical team lead by Dr. Nengpilhing, MO in-charge of PHC Kalapahar delivered a healthy baby boy at Tumnoupokpi Home Quarantine at around 12:15 pm under the careful supervision of Dr. Nilakanta Singh, CMO Kangpokpi and Dr. Paotinlal Haokip, in-charge Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Kangpokpi.

It was the second delivered for the medical team of PHC Kalapahar. Earlier, Emmanuel Quarantino, the first quarantine baby was delivered at Emmanuel School Haipi Institutional Quarantine Centre, Manipur by the same medical team led by Dr. Nengpilhing and Dr. Thangboi.

After the successful delivery of the baby boy, Dr. Nengpilhing and her husband Ngamminlen along with the medical team named the baby boy ‘Covida’ who weight 4 kg. The child’s mother Jasmine was a Bangalore returnee who reached the state on May 29. The baby boy and her mother are healthy.

The in-charge of Kangpokpi block IQCs, Chunglenmang Kipgen, MCS and his team including Addl.SP (Ops), Kangpokpi, Lalminlen Misao, MPS and local senior journalist Kaybie Chongloi also visited the baby boy and her mother.

Kangpokpi District, Manipur has three quarantine babies now. They are Emmanuel Quarantino, Covina and Covida.
