Three women’s organizations namely All Manipur Tribal Women Union (AMTWU), All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) and All Manipur Muslim Women Organization (AMMWO) have protested against the removal of the lone woman Minister Nemcha Kipgen in the Council of Ministers so as to why the only woman representative in the Council of Ministers of Manipur was removed. While demanding the inclusion of more women include in policy-making process in the State.
Convener of All Manipur Tribal Women Union, Kim Gangte said “Although AMTWU, AMNM and AMMWO do not demand reinstatement of Nemcha Kipgen as a Cabinet Minister, we do not demand reinstatement of Nemcha Kipgen as a Cabinet Minister, we do demand an explanation from the Government and the Chief Minister for dropping the lone woman Minister”.
“Women in Manipur will no longer tolerate discrimination and mental harassment. We have our own rights. Though the government failed to listen to the voice of women, there are also a section of men who stood for women and their upliftment,” she added.
Kim, further stated that the women bodies would write a letter and submit it to all concerned authorities at higher level such as the national and international discrimination against women.
Manipur CM recently had a major cabinet reshuffle by removing three BJP ministers, including former social welfare minister Nemcha Kipgen, two ally party NPP ministers and one LJP from the cabinet and inducted five new faces in his ministry.
