IMPHAL: A youth named Nongmaithem Boboy from Manipur remanded by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West to judicial custody for 15 days over derogatory comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh's Facebook post.

The 22-year-old made a comment on CM Singh's Facebook post where Singh was seen glorifying a cleanliness drive carried out as part of PM Modi’s birthday celebrations across the BJP ruled states.

"Modi gi thi sengo yenge (Clean the faeces of Modi and we'll watch)," Boboy commented on CM Singh's same very post.

Later a team of Lamphel Police on September 19 arrested Boboy who hails from Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai and booked under from 505(2-b) IPC to 505(2) IPC or intent to create enmity, hatred or ill will between different religions, racial, language or regional groups or caste or communities as per reports.

Boboy was produced before Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate Y Somorjit Singh through video conferencing today after completion of police remand and with a prayer for judicial custody remand.

The court observed that the comment, derogatory in nature, made the rounds even before the accused could be deleted and directly targets CM, an elected representative of the State, and PM of the country.

“In my considered opinion, this cannot be overlooked as it may create a negative precedent and may cause more harm than good. As such, I find it proper to allow the prayer for remanding the accused into judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case,” said the CJM, remanding the accused into judicial custody with direction for his production on October 5, 2021.
