IMPHAL: Shushila Devi Likmabam (24), a judoka from Manipur, has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the 48 kg category. The International Judo Federation (IJF) made the announcement.

Shushila is the fifth Manipur athlete to qualify for the mega sports event, which will take place this summer from July 23 to August 8.

She is the only judo player from India who has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, reports said.

She was also one of two Indian judokas selected by the Judo Federation of India (JFI) for the World Judo Championship, which took place in Budapest, Hungary, from June 6 to 13.

On the other hand, the Judo Federation of India stated that it will wait for the final list.

According to reports, this (International Judo Federation's list) may change and it will be finalised only on June 28.

Sushila has 989 points after losing her first round in the 48kg category at the World Judo Championships in Budapest on Sunday. She is now ranked seventh in Asia.

The continental quotas are given to judokas based on their regional ranking. In Asia, ten quota seats are available.

Sushila has won gold medals at the Commonwealth Judo Championships in Singapore in 2010 and the Asian Youth Judo Championships in Lebanon in 2011 (awarded best judoka), as well as a silver medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

386 judokas will participate in 15 events at the Tokyo Olympics, seven for men and seven for women, as well as a new mixed team event.
