MANIPUR:SPECIAL NIA COURT PRONOUNCES VERDICT, CONVICTS 4 ACCUSED IN PREPAK/UPPK CASE

The Special NIA Court Guwahati pronounced its verdict on June 25th 2018 convicting all the four accused persons in RC-04/2012/NIA-GUW (PREPAK/UPPK case). The quantum of punishment will be announced after hearing on June 27th 2018. Case No. RC-04/2012/NIA/GUW was registered by NIA on 07/12/2012 u/s 120B, 121,121A,386,420,468,471 of IPC and u/s 17,18,20  of UA(P) Act on the orders of the MHA.

Names of accused persons who have been convicted are SS (Self-styled) General Secretary Ningthoujam Shanti Meitei , Chinglemba Mangang, Takhelchangbam Hemanta Sharma,SS Capt. Laishram Jiten Singh of Selkai, SS Finance Secretary, Langpoklakpam Inaocha Singh,Birjit Lalcha,SS Major Elangbam Bobo, Khanganba.

NIA had charge sheeted the above accused u/s 120-B,386,419,420,468 and 471 of IPC and sections 10,18,20,38 and 40 of UA(P) Act.

Background of the case is that the cadres of proscribed terrorist organization/gang PREPAK/UPPK, having the aim and objective of formation of an independent Manipur by secession of Manipur State from the Union of India, were involved in a criminal conspiracy to wage war against Government of India thereby threatening the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India. They had resorted to armed struggle to achieve their objective and in pursuance they had also recruited a number of cadres and trained them in carrying out terrorist activities. They were also involved in raising funds by way of illegal means including extortion from the government officials, businessmen, professionals and civilians. They had opened several bank accounts under assumed identities by using forged documents to channelize the funds which were further invested in movable/ immovable assets across the country and abroad, during the period from 2010 to 2012.
